About HDMI 2.1 Cable

HDMI 2.1 is the latest version of the HDMI standard and offers a number of significant improvements over previous versions. The most notable improvement is support for Ultra High Definition (UHD) resolutions up to 8K at 60 frames per second (fps), as well as High Dynamic Range (HDR) and wide color gamut support. HDMI 2.1 also introduces new features such as dynamic HDR, eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel), and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR).

The Different Types of HDMI 2.1 Cables

Standard HDMI is the most common type of HDMI cable. It's also the least expensive and most widely available.

Mini HDMI is smaller than Standard HDMI, making it ideal for use with portable devices such as laptops and smartphones.

Micro HDMI is even smaller than Mini HDMI, making it ideal for use with ultra-portable devices such as action cameras and drones.

All three types of HDMI 2.1 cables support 4K resolution at 60fps, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and other advanced features.

However, only Standard and Mini HDMI cables can be used with traditional HDTVs and other devices that don't have an HDMI 2.1 input. Micro HDMI cables can only be used with devices that have an Micro HDMI input.

How to Choose the Right HDMI 2.1 Cable

Data speed. The HDMI 2.1 standard supports data transfer speeds of up to 48Gbps, which is enough to support 4K video at 120Hz or 8K video at 60Hz. If you don't need that much bandwidth, you can save money by choosing a lower-speed cable.

Length. HDMI cables are available in lengths ranging from 1 foot to 100 feet. The longer the cable, the more expensive it will be. If you only need a short cable, don't waste your money on a long one.

Connector type. There are three types of HDMI connectors: Type A, Type B, and Type C.

Type A is the most common and is compatible with all devices that have an HDMI port. Type B is less common and is only compatible with some older devices. Type C is the newest type of connector and is only compatible with the latest devices that support the USB-C interface.
