The Staedtler Double-hole Tub Pencil Sharpener is a well-built, practical manual sharpener designed for everyday office, school, and art use. Its double-hole design lets you sharpen both standard pencils (around 8.2 mm) and thicker colored pencils (up to about 10.2 mm), making it more versatile than basic single-hole sharpeners. The standout feature is its metal blade insert, which provides a clean, consistent point without chewing up the wood or lead. It also includes a transparent shavings container with a secure lid, so it’s easy to see when it needs emptying and it helps prevent mess—especially useful for carrying it in a pencil case or bag. In everyday use, it’s reliable and gives a fairly precise, controlled sharpening result. Many users appreciate that it works well for both regular writing pencils and colored pencils, and the dual-angle sharpening helps match different pencil types for smoother writing or drawing. On the downside, it’s still a manual tub-style sharpener, so it takes a bit more effort than electric options. It can also produce a slightly shorter or more conservative pencil point compared to premium long-point sharpeners, which artists sometimes prefer. And like most plastic-bodied sharpeners, it’s not indestructible if dropped or heavily abused. Overall, this Staedtler model is a dependable, no-fuss sharpener that balances portability, cleanliness, and consistent sharpening quality. It’s a strong choice if you want something simple, durable, and versatile rather than fancy or specialized.

Great sharpener! I love that it works for 2 sizes of pencils, and also that it closes so the blades are covered. handy little sharpener.

Just try it. The big hole doesn't work well, but the small hole works perfectly.
